Anne has been an MP for Guildford for 14 years. Before going into politics, she was a nurse and worked for the NHS for 25 years. She became a borough councillor in Surrey in 1994, was Conservative Group Leader and was elected as Member of Parliament for Guildford in 2005. Formerly Minister for Women, she served as Minister of State for Skills and Apprenticeships from 2017 until her resignation in July 2019. Having voted against the government in September 2019, the Conservative Whip was withdrawn and she now sit as an independent MP.
